Aims of School Council
- To provide pupils with an opportunity to discuss issues relating to the school
- To include the ideas of all pupils (through their representatives) in the future development of the school
- To allow pupils a chance to discuss whole school issues in class situations
- To allow pupils a greater understanding of why certain decisions are taken that affect them at school
At Childeric, we have an active and lively school council that aims to meet every half term.
At the beginning of the year, each class (Y2 – Y6) holds elections to nominate their two class representatives. The children choose people from their class who they believe would be good at getting the voice and ideas of the pupils heard.
The children in each class from Year 2 to Year 6 send two representatives to every meeting. These children meet with the Headteacher to discuss issues relating to the school. The children then report back to the rest of the class on the issues discussed and the Headteacher produces minutes for the representatives to use. The children in class have the chance to discuss any issues that they would like their representatives to take to the next meeting.
School council is thoroughly enjoyed by all members who attend the meetings and it is seen as a real privilege to be chosen to represent your class.
Recent meetings have included:
- The introduction of new colours for the school
- Discussions about what could be done to improve the school
- A new menu for school dinners
